Social Worker

Role Description
This on-site Social Worker position is based in Mount Isa, Queensland, working closely with individuals, families and the wider community. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate.
The role requires a versatile, flexible and community-focused approach to social work. You will provide practical and emotional support to clients experiencing a range of social, personal and wellbeing challenges, adapting your approach to suit individual circumstances and community needs.
Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting client assessments and identifying individual, family and community support needs.
• Developing and implementing appropriate support and care plans.
• Providing flexible, person-centred support across a diverse caseload.
• Delivering crisis intervention, guidance, advocacy and referrals.
• Connecting clients with community services, government programmes and other support networks.
• Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community organisations.
• Participating in case reviews to support continuity and quality of care.
• Maintaining accurate, confidential and up-to-date case records.
• Supporting clients to build independence, resilience and confidence.
• Promoting client rights, empowerment, safety and overall wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment. They will demonstrate adaptability, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to working within the Mount Isa community.

Qualifications and Experience

• A recognised qualification in Social Work, such as a Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent.
• Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Demonstrated experience in case management, client assessment and support planning within community, healthcare or social services settings.
• A versatile and flexible approach, with the ability to respond to changing client and community needs.
• Strong communication, active listening and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
• Experience working collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organisations, government services and other relevant stakeholders.
• Sound documentation and organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple cases and maintain confidential records.
• An understanding of ethical practice, safeguarding requirements and relevant social work legislation and policy frameworks.
• Resilience, professional boundaries and a strong awareness of self-care when managing emotionally demanding situations.
• Confidence using computer systems and case management software, with a willingness to learn new systems.
• Previous experience in community services, mental health, child and family services, disability support or aged care will be highly regarded.
• Experience working in rural, remote or culturally diverse communities would be advantageous.
